Melanoma that is considered clinically confined to the skin or lymph nodes would require adjuvant therapy in order to reduce the cancer spreading after surgery. Common forms of adjuvant therapy are radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Read more »

Skin Issues Caused By Tanning Beds

Many of us will do things to our skin that will damage it underneath the surface? During the summer months (when we have time) we will set up our pool chairs and apply the tanning lotion and sit in the sun for hours in the hopes that we will get the perfect tan.

Those who don’t have time to sit out for hours on end will make frequent trips to the tanning salon. This is possibly one of the worst things that you could ever do to your skin. Many studies show that a number of skin problems have been caused by tanning beds and the UV rays that they use on our skin.

The most common of these problems is skin cancer. Every year more than a thousand people are diagnosed with skin cancer because of the exposure to the UV rays from tanning beds and the sun. The good thing when it is found early skin cancer can be treated. The bad news is not many people will catch it until it is too late because they will not notice the symptoms till it is in the advanced stages.

Skin cancer is just one of the many problems from tanning beds. Those who tan on a regular basis for many years will literally turn their skin into leather and will have aged before their time. The skin will cease to have that natural glow that we long for and will lose its elasticity. No elasticity means it is time to welcome all of those wrinkles.

Dry skin is yet another symptoms of the tanning bed. Those with dry skin will also suffer from itching and may have worse skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis. These can be treated – but they are annoying to live with.

Most people who love to use tanning beds will deny that they have any problems and feel that they are the lucky few to be able to use them without any consequences. What they don’t know is that these signs and problems will usually show themselves when it is too late. By the time the person realizes what it did they will have all the effects that they were hoping to live with.
