Eczema Nummular

Nummular eczema is a medical condition in which a rash will form on a person that will itch and make a design of coin shaped patches on the surface of the skin. As time progresses the rash will begin to clear and start to become scaly. Many individuals can confuse it with psoriasis and ring worm (a case of fungus). This medical skin condition can be long-term in most people when not addressed.

There is no known specific cause for nummular eczema. At certain times doctors believe that an allergic reaction to medication can cause it in certain situations. Also they believe that people are more prone to this skin condition during the winter or do anything that will dry out their skin too much. This is because people who suffer from any type of eczema have extremely dry skin that can be irritated easily.

There is nothing that can cure nummular eczema – but there are many ways in which it can be controlled. Doctors may prescribe strong cortisone ointments that can be applied to the skin. Periodic dermatology exams will be used on patients who have had the condition for long periods of time. Coal tar is effective for people who have a more aggressive case. Because the rash and the legions can become infected easily the doctor might have to prescribe special antibiotics to control it if this happens.

Make sure to keep rough clothing (like wool) off your skin, certain types of soap, and to stay away from other things that will irritate the skin and make it worse. It would even be a wise move to wash your clothes using dye free and fragrance free detergent.

How To Spot And Treat Melanoma

There are dozens of different types of cancers that range from mild to severe cases. While we do have certain treatments they do not always rid the body of all of the cancerous cells.

It will push the person into remission – but there is always a chance that it will come back into the person’s body. Usually our lifestyle will not be able to help and determine whether or not we will have cancer. Except if it is melanoma.

Melanoma is one of the few types of cancers that we can actually do our best to avoid. If we applied the proper sunscreen and stayed off the tanning bed we could reduce that risk by a lot.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that will begin in the skin. It’s official name is called melanocytes. People should always be on the lookout for melanoma so that they can catch it early. The way to do this is to know the symptoms and signs to look for.

The first sign of melanoma is a change in the shape, color, size, and feel of an already existing mole. The majority of melanomas have a black and blue area surrounding them or they may have the appearance of a brand new mole. Sometimes they may also be abnormal, black, and very unattractive.

If you feel that you have melanoma in anyway it is important that you contact your doctor immediately. They will able to run the appropriate tests and determine whether or not it is.

During the examination with your doctor they will perform a routine check up as well as examine your skin for any growths. If your family has a history with this cancer than you should make your doctor aware of any new moles that have appeared.

Patients can have melanome treated if it is diagnosed and properly treated while the tumor is small and thin and has not had the chance to invade the skin. If the doctor is unable to remove the mole during the early stages than the cancer cells will grow in a downward fashion and invade the healthy tissue. Once it is thick and deep the disease will spread to other parts of the body that is very difficult to control and treat.

Learn What Moles Look Like

Sometimes the blemishes that we have can be somewhat unattractive to us or they might be our defining feature. Moles are one of these types of blemishes that can go either way.

A skin mole is a round spot on the skin that looks similar to a freckle. The difference is that they are raised and bumpy while freckles are completely flat. Skin moles can be large, small and can look red, brown, black, red, and pink.

Dysplastic nevi is also an indication of a high risk of developing melanoma. This health risk will increase when there are a number of dysplastic nevi, there is a family history of melanoma in the family, and when the skin is light-colored and has many freckles due to large amount of exposure to the sun.

When it comes to determine what a mole looks like doctors will use the “ABCDs of Melanoma Detection”.

A. Asymmetrical – Dysplastic nevi are usually asymmetrical. If the lesion is folded in half than the two parts would not match up together.
B. Border irregular – The borders are usually poorly defined or may have the look of a fried-egg.
C. Color varies – An atypical nevus will usually have more than one color to it.
D. Diameter – It is true that melanomas are usually more than 6 millimeters in diameter – but there is a chance that they could be diagnosed when they are smaller. The best thing to do is to watch out for a mole that might be significantly different than the others or that will bleed, itch, or even change its appearance. If you see any of these signs you should see your dermatologist.

Types Of Face Acne Scarring

When we begin puberty we are excited to begin a new cycle in our lives. It is the time that we become young adults and we start to see the world differently and feel differently.

One of the worst things about puberty is acne. Some go through it in small stages and others will have large breakouts for many years. This medical condition will affect most people. It is not always understood why it will affect them and why some people will have severe acne that will cause scarring of the face. During acne scarring the collagen in the skin is damaged from inflammation that will change the way that the skin looks.

There are different types of acne scarring. They are boxcar scarring, ice pick scarring, and hypertrophy scarring.

Boxcar Scarring
These scars are depressed, steeply angled, and round shaped. They look very close to chickenpox scars.

Ice Pick Scarring
These scars have steep edged and are deep pitted into the skin.

Hypertrophic Scarring
These scars are more often found on the chest and back. They can be found on the surface of the skin and are thick and lumpy.

All of these scarrings (except for hypertrophy scarring) will occur more commonly on the face. When this happens they are defined as face acne scarring. One of the most common signs of acne scars is discoloration. This is easy to treat – but it may take up to several years for them to completely fade away.

The color changes in these scars are categorized in three ways: post inflammatory erythema (purple and pink patches where the acne is), post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (black and brown patches), and post inflammatory hypopigmentation (white marks where the acne has healed). Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation will usually affect those with darker skin or those who have the ability to tan easily. Tanning will worsen the look of acne.
